Chile – San Pedro de Atacama

As we make our way out of the Alti-Plano covering Peru, Bolivia, and Chile, we make our way down a long straight road dropping 2,000 meters in altitude into the Atacama Desert. San Pedro de Atacama is a little town sitting in the middle of this desert with flat sand plains as far as the eye can see. Far away in the distance, numerous volcanoes stick out above the horizon. The Atacama desert is an extreme place with very hot climates in the lower altitudes, and chilly climates in the higher altitudes. The Atacama desert is dotted with alien landscapes that have some-how formed out of a freak of nature. We take the time to explore some of these such as the Taito Geysers, the Valley of the Moon, and Death Valley. The names speak for themselves. With the environment around the Atacama Desert being so barren, it is also an ideal place for star-gazing when the moon is not out.
